The more useful question is where it’s actually landing across the workflow: which tasks compress\, which stay stubbornly human\, and what that means for the value of your expertise. \n\n\n\nWe’ll walk a real research workflow stage by stage: drafting and reviewing a study\, translating it into new markets\, automatically coding open-ends and exploring statistical significance and verbatim responses\, then reporting out. At each stage\, we’ll show exactly what AI gives back and what a person still has to catch.  \n\n\n\naytm has been at the front of building AI into this workflow with Skipper and\, soon\, the Bridge\, so we’ll ground the walkthrough in what that actually looks like in practice: one real\, anonymized before-and-after. \n\n\n\nThen we’ll look at where it’s heading: querying insight across your whole research library\, and what it takes to open that up safely to the rest of your org. \n\n\n\nYou’ll leave with: \n\n\n\n\nA stage-by-stage map of where AI compresses a real research workflow (drafting\, reviewing\, translating\, automatically coding\, exploring statistical significance and verbatim responses\, and reporting) and where a person still has to check the work\n\n\n\nA concrete answer to “what protects quality when AI drafts and reports”: source attribution and insight-card indexing\, not a policy memo\n\n\n\nOne real\, anonymized before-and-after showing exactly which hours came back\n\n\n\nA clear picture of how the same standards extend past your desk to non-researchers in your org\, without you reviewing every query yourself\n\n\n\n\nWhat we’ll cover: \n\n\n\n\nWhere AI is actually landing across the research workflow right now\, and where it isn’t\n\n\n\nA worked walkthrough of drafting\, reviewing\, translating\, automatically coding\, exploring statistical significance and verbatim responses\, and reporting: what AI changes at each stage and where a person stays in charge\n\n\n\nOne real\, anonymized before-and-after from a research team that’s already made this shift\n\n\n\nWhat’s next: querying insight across every study you’ve run\, and what it takes to open that up safely to the rest of your org\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\nGlenn FleischmanGlenn Fleischman is the Chief Revenue Officer at aytm\, leads revenue strategy and scales the company’s growth in AI-powered consumer insightsFIND OUT MORE Glenn Fleischman\n\n\nLearn More About aytm\n\n\naytmaytm is a fully integrated agile consumer insights platform with verified audiences\, automated research tests\, and advanced analysis tools.FIND OUT MORE aytm

It addresses three main tensions: Replacement\, Uselessness/Underappreciation and Professional Growth Hindrance. \n\n\n\nWe will explore these limitations of AI within qualitative research\, the research project that helped propel a reframe of its role and how that reframe can help AI’s limitations become a source of partnership\, not friction. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\nMacie ShewmakerMacie Shewmaker\, Global Head of Qualitative Research at YouGov\, blends traditional methodology with empathy\, innovation and creativity.FIND OUT MORE Macie Shewmaker

Rapport\, neutrality and careful\, non-leading phrasing all exist because the interviewer is human\, and because the person answering reads the face\, the tone and everything left unsaid. AI-moderated interviews quietly remove that constraint. An AI moderator is unoffendable and endlessly consistent\, and it can hold a persona no human interviewer could sustain. Or would ever be allowed to attempt. \n\n\n\nThat opens up styles of questioning that were simply not available before. This session tests the most interesting of them: deliberately making the interviewer provocative and argumentative. So\, it pushes back. Challenges what people claim\, and even imposes an assumption on them to provoke a correction. When someone is nudged into defending what they believe\, they tend to tell you far more\, and far more honestly\, than when they are asked politely and neutrally. \n\n\n\nTim Treagus runs the same interview through three deliberately engineered personas\, a neutral moderator\, a warm and encouraging one\, and a provocative one that argues back\, across several markets. The session shows what each persona pulls out of people\, where provocation earns better data\, where it backfires\, and how to build these personas into your own prompts. With the guardrails that keep challenge constructive\, rather than hostile. \n\n\n\nThis is not a tool demo. It is a more technical and psychological way of thinking about how we ask questions once the interviewer is no longer human. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nTreat interviewer persona as a design decision. Right now most AI interviews inherit whatever default tone the model happens to have. You will leave able to choose that tone on purpose\, and match it to your research objective.\n\n\n\nPrompt patterns for an interviewer that pushes back. Concrete\, reusable ways to make an AI moderator challenge a claim\, surface a contradiction\, or float an assumption for the person to correct.\n\n\n\nA read on what persona actually changes. How warmth and provocation move depth\, candor and the gap between what people say and what they do\, so you can predict the trade-off before you field.\n\n\n\nWhen to provoke and when not to. Provocation carries a drop-off and rapport risk. You will get a clear sense of the topics and moments where it pays\, and where a neutral or warm persona serves you better.\n\n\n\nGuardrails and ethics. How to keep a challenging interviewer constructive\, protect participants\, and stay on the right side of the line. Before you put this in front of real people.\n\n\n\nA wider point about what is now askable. Questions and question styles that were never possible\, or permissible human to human\, are now on the table. And that is worth designing for deliberately.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\nTim TreagusTim Treagus is the co-founder and CEO of Yazi\, interested in the questions AI interviewing makes possible that were never possible before.FIND OUT MORE Tim Treagus

Run it on the wrong one and you trade research quality for speed. Knowing which is which\, and being able to defend that call to stakeholders\, is where most teams get stuck. \n\n\n\nIn this practical session\, Laura Pulito\, Vice President of Research at Recollective\, walks through how to make that decision and what to weigh before running an AI-moderated interview. She covers how to judge when AI moderation adds clear value\, when human moderation is the stronger fit and how the researcher’s role changes when AI handles the active probing. \n\n\n\nLaura will also share how to keep research quality high when AI is doing the interviewing: writing objectives that produce the conversation you intended\, setting guardrails your stakeholders can stand behind\, testing a design before launch and reading the outputs closely enough to reach real insight. It’s built for researchers who want to adopt AI on their own terms\, keeping human judgment and curiosity central to the work. \n\n\n\nWhat you will learn: \n\n\n\n\nDecide with confidence when AI-moderated interviews will strengthen a study and when a human moderator is the better call\n\n\n\nMove from automated summaries to genuine insight your team can act on\n\n\n\nGet to the “why” behind an answer with far more participants than you could interview live\n\n\n\nProtect research quality with clear objectives and guardrails that hold up to stakeholder and governance scrutiny\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\nLaura PulitoLaura is VP Research Services with Recollective\, and has more than a decade’s online research experience on both the client and supplier side. It is a relationship. And like every relationship in nature\, sustainability requires a negotiation of mutual value. \n\n\n\nThis presentation uses a forest ecosystem as a framework for diagnosing what is happening to our industry. Client budgets are the sun. Procurement is the atmosphere\, refracting light before it reaches the canopy. Participants are the water\, increasingly contaminated by fraud and incentive pressure. Accumulated research is the soil (when recycled\, a potentially a rich source of life). And AI is the mycelium: a vast networked intelligence\, already threading through our root systems\, capable of feeding the forest or consuming it from below.  We draw on different examples of how the relationship can be symbiotic or parasitic – arguing that we need to put our energies into making it mutually beneficial. \n\n\n\nIt draws on case studies from Feeling Mutual’s own practice. Re-analysing past qualitative data against new briefs using Coloop for PureGym. Building a strategic thinking partner and digital twins in Claude\, trained on primary research for Amazon Books. Using AI to help make sense of complex multi-billion dollar overseas investment strategy for Diriyah Company – which augment AI analysis of 80 international investor depth interviews. \n\n\n\nIt closes with six recommendations for how qualitative researchers can move from seeing AI as an apex predator\, competing for scarce budgets\, and instead positively adapt towards symbiosis. Resisting parasitic drift\, feeding the soil deliberately\, cultivating the niches platforms cannot reach. And taking responsibility for whether the spores of insights actually germinate. \n\n\n\nThis is not a talk about whether AI is good or bad for research. It is a map of the ecosystem we are now living in. And a practical argument for how to not just survive\, but to thrive. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\nTom WoodnuttTom is the founder of insight & strategy collective Feeling Mutual. But in solving for speed and scale\, has the industry overlooked a more fundamental issue? \n\n\n\nAs interviews become increasingly dynamic – whether led by humans or AI – variability in question delivery and probing can lead to insight drift: what happens when variability in both question delivery and probing causes the research findings to gradually move away from the original objective. \n\n\n\nThis session challenges the assumption that more conversations automatically produce better insights. Instead\, attendees will explore why consistent question delivery\, disciplined probing\, and maintaining alignment with the original research objective are equally important as speed and scale. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nRecognize why speed and scale alone do not guarantee better qualitative insights.\n\n\n\nUnderstand how variability in question delivery and probing can lead to insight drift and undermine confidence in research findings.\n\n\n\nLearn a framework for evaluating qualitative research through consistent question delivery\, disciplined probing\, and maintaining alignment with the original research objective.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\nAdrian SansoneAdrian Sansone is the Founder & CEO of DOCREPLAY.ai\, a voice-capture qual research platform for the pharmaceutical and biotech industryFIND OUT MORE Adrian Sansone

African qualitative practice has largely gone unwritten\, so when a global model is asked about the African consumer it answers from frameworks written elsewhere. The answer reads as authoritative and a client has no way of telling that it is not. \n\n\n\nThe session draws on 31 in-depth interviews with qualitative researchers across the continent\, done for The Qual African. Over and over they described methods they use every week and have never written down anywhere. Working with an interpreter who is doing much more than translating. Reading a silence in a group and knowing what to do with it. Real technique\, held in people’s heads and nowhere else. \n\n\n\nDocumentation is the urgent work now. The session covers how to do it inside live project work\, without turning it into a separate writing job that never happens. It also covers where AI does earn its place in African fieldwork\, because it does. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nA provenance test for AI output about African consumers\, to run before it reaches a client.\n\n\n\nHow to document method inside live project work\, and where to publish it without academic access.\n\n\n\nWhere AI helps in African fieldwork and where it does damage.\n\n\n\nHow to make the documentation gap a commercial argument in a client conversation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\nMpho MpofuMpho Mpofu is qualitative research and consumer insights specialist based in Johannesburg\, working across African and global markets.FIND OUT MORE Mpho Mpofu

Discover new behaviours\, contexts and cultural shifts before they fit established categories.\n\n\n\nUnderstand in context — See what surrounds and shapes behaviour. Understand the norms\, identities\, communities and relationships that give individual choices meaning.\n\n\n\nCreate greater decision value — Turn understanding into consequential decisions. Yet\, faster analysis does not automatically create better decisions. Many insights lose impact when participant voice is flattened\, emotional nuance is missed\, stakeholders do not trust the findings\, or researchers struggle to make the human truth visible inside the organisation. \n\n\n\nThis session introduces Human Readiness and the VISIBLE™ Framework. Voice\, Identity\, Spotlight\, Inner Work\, Belief\, Leverage\, and Elevation. As a practical solution for strengthening the human side of qualitative insight. Attendees will learn how confidence and visibility function as measurable competencies that affect research storytelling\, stakeholder influence\, insight adoption\, empathy\, and organisational decision-making. Participants will leave with a framework for identifying hidden gaps between what participants reveal\, and what organisations act on. \n\n\n\nBecause qualitative research does not create impact when stories are collected. It creates impact when people are ready to hear them. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nIdentify three Human Readiness gaps that can weaken qualitative insight impact. Including flattened participant voice\, low stakeholder trust\, unclear storytelling\, weak researcher influence\, missed emotional nuance\, or limited insight adoption.\n\n\n\nApply the VISIBLE™ Framework to strengthen participant-centered storytelling\, stakeholder communication\, insight visibility\, empathy\, and decision-readiness.\n\n\n\nBuild one practical Human Readiness action step that helps qualitative researchers translate human stories into clearer recommendations\, stronger stakeholder buy-in\, and more actionable business or product decisions.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\nSheena Yap ChanSheena is a Wall Street Journal and Publishers Weekly bestselling author\, TEDx and keynote speaker\, and a leading voice in Human ReadinessFIND OUT MORE Sheena Yap Chan

Now\, AI holds one up to our research: synthetic respondents\, digital twins\, and simulated interviews. But the mirror is cracked. Trained on the average\, it reflects the centre whilst losing the edges. The anomaly\, the contradiction\, and the uncomfortable question that ultimately changes the brief. \n\n\n\nMore importantly\, there is a second mirror we’re worse at using: the one we hold up to our own past. Time and again\, tech revolution made the same three mistakes. First\, we built for scale before we understood the human. We confused the medium for the message. We ignored the warnings until they became a crisis. But the record is complete\, from the internal warnings at Google in 2013\, to MIT’s finding that 95% of organisations are getting zero return on $30–40 billion of AI investment. That glass is fine. The crack is in the looking.. \n\n\n\nThis session introduces The Three Mirrors: a diagnostic framework of three questions that force us to check both reflections. What AI can’t show us\, and what we’ve been refusing to see. It closes with a practical model for hybrid qualitative work. Where AI delivers speed and scale\, as well as human judgment\, which makes it meaningful. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nThree Mirrors framework: three questions to hold up to any AI initiative before it ships.\n\n\n\nA four-stage test for locating where your research sits between reflection and simulation.\n\n\n\nHybrid qual model: which tasks to hand to AI. From transcription and synthesis to analysis\, hypothesis generation\, AI-led conversations and increasingly AI pack and innovation work. But as the industry races to adopt new tools\, the more useful question may not be “Where can we use AI?” but “Where does AI genuinely make the research better and where do we still need proximity to real human experience?” \n\n\n\nDrawing on nearly 30 years of qualitative research across Africa and other international markets\, Samantha brings a practical\, non-European perspective to this question. Africa provides a particularly powerful lens through which to examine AI-enabled research. Multilingual\, enormous differences in lived context. Informal and formal economies existing alongside one another. Culturally nuanced communication and consumer realities\, that are not always well represented in the data on which technology relies. AI can help us find patterns\, interrogate more information\, and remove enormous amounts of friction from the research process. But a convincing representation of human experience is not necessarily evidence of human experience. \n\n\n\nRather than arguing for either traditional research or AI\, the session introduces a practical “bothism” approach. Deciding deliberately\, where technology should accelerate\, augment or scale research and where fresh human discovery remains essential. Through real methodological examples from WhatsApp diaries and mobile ethnography\, to unconventional fieldwork environments and AI-assisted analysis\, the session demonstrates why methodology should follow the question\, the consumer and the context\, rather than the technology. \n\n\n\nThe session will leave researchers with a simple way of thinking about AI in their own work. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nThinking about how to identify the parts of qualitative research where AI can remove friction and increase analytical capacity.\n\n\n\nHow to distinguish AI-generated or modelled understanding from fresh human discovery.\n\n\n\nHow to decide when scale is useful and when depth\, intimacy and cultural context matter more.\n\n\n\nHow to use AI as an analytical partner without outsourcing researcher judgement.\n\n\n\nHow to protect proximity to real consumers while still embracing the speed and possibilities of AI-enabled research.\n\n\n\n\nThe central message is simple: the future of qualitative research is neither human nor AI. It is knowing how to combine the strengths of both\, essentially removing friction\, without removing humanity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\nSamantha LoggenbergSamantha Loggenberg\, founder of Insights Edge\, is a senior qualitative researcher with 30 years’ experience in the insights industry.FIND OUT MORE Samantha Loggenberg

Most AI models are trained on a narrow slice of the world — overwhelmingly Western\, English-speaking\, and urban — yet businesses use them to build personas\, campaigns and customer strategy for markets these models were never designed to represent. \n\n\n\nThis session reframes qualitative research as the human intelligence layer that keeps AI outputs accurate\, culturally grounded\, and commercially useful. We draw on proprietary consumer research across Australia and the US\, real client work correcting AI-generated personas\, and the growing global movement toward AI and data sovereignty. From Indigenous data rights in Aotearoa\, New Zealand\, to sovereign AI investment in France and India. Nichola Quail shows us why understanding a customer on their own terms\, is no longer a nice-to-have. It’s a strategic asset which competitors can’t buy off the shelf. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nWhy AI-generated personas and insights consistently default to a narrow\, Western worldview — and what this costs a brand in market.\n\n\n\nWhat “cultural sovereignty” means for brands\, and why it’s a boardroom and government issue. Not just a research one.\n\n\n\nA practical framework for building a human intelligence layer into AI-enabled workflows. Getting upstream of training data\, briefing AI tools with cultural context\, and stress-testing outputs with real people.\n\n\n\nHow to move from selling one-off research projects to packaging cultural insight as an ongoing\, AI-ready retainer.\n\n\n\n\nThis session is designed for qualitative researchers\, consultants\, and insights leaders who want to lead the client conversation on AI rather than be left out of it\, and build more strategic\, higher-value work in the Agentic era. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\nNichola QuailNichola Quail from Insight Exchange researches why humans behave the way they do and builds AI-augmented research delivery into her business.FIND OUT MORE Nichola Quail

But do those claims hold up? This new methodology raises important questions on what insights they provide. \n\n\n\nIn reality\, AI-moderated interviews are not clear-cut and easy\, as the platforms would like you to believe. Jeremy discusses how AIMIs differ from traditional qualitative research\, and where human guidance is needed to ensure AI interviews yield useful insights. Also why AIMIs should not be thought of as qualitative research but rather as a qual-quant hybrid method\, and how this affects how researchers design\, execute\, and interpret the results of this methodology. The session will conclude with where Jeremy perceives AI moderation progressing\, and how the qual-quant binary will continue to collapse as new technology allows for hybrid methods. \n\n\n\nKey Takeaways: \n\n\n\n\nAI moderation can enhance overall research abilities\, if done in conjunction with humans.\n\n\n\nDesign\, sample management\, and analysis are top areas where humans can to intervene for AIMIs.\n\n\n\nDevelopments in survey platform technology and AI will further combine qual and quant elements.
