In this Insights for Impact Award – Qualitative Research 2025 winning case study, sponsored by Recollective and Insight Platforms, Jessica Dua demonstrates how human-centered research moved beyond insight generation to real-world transformation.
Conducted with children living in slum clusters in New Delhi, with parents providing additional perspectives, the study set out to design an ideal study table. Through real-time sketching and structured co-creation, children directly shaped concepts that were developed into working prototypes. Each participating child received their own study table to use in their daily environment, followed by validation interviews assessing design, functionality, and usefulness.
By identifying the true obstacles to effective learning, the project converted teenage voices into tangible change: improving focus, strengthening motivation, and enabling better academic outcomes. The initiative delivered measurable, long-term impact by transforming students’ learning environments and academic experiences.
The session walks through the evolution of design, key methodological decisions, and practical lessons for insights professionals seeking to connect research to execution.
Conducted by Jessica Dua and powered by Recollective and Insights Platform, the project demonstrates how the right infrastructure can support research that creates lasting impact.
