Johnsonville is a major American sausage brand that needed a more disciplined, repeatable approach to developing and evaluating advertising creative. The brand faced the challenge of building a structured ad testing process that could be consistently applied throughout creative development. Existing approaches did not provide the iterative, embedded testing capability required to inform and improve ads at each stage of the development process.

Johnsonville worked with Zappi, using the Amplify ad testing tool, beginning with a beta trial in 2020. The Amplify platform was applied as an iterative testing capability embedded directly within the ad development process. This approach allowed the team to test creative work at multiple stages, using consumer feedback to guide decisions throughout production rather than relying on a single point of evaluation at the end of the creative process.

What began as a beta trial in 2020 grew into a disciplined, iterative testing practice that became a core part of Johnsonville’s ad development process. The approach was associated with award recognition, with imagery in the case study indicating an Effie Award, which recognises advertising effectiveness.

I used to test with consumer data once at the end of the campaign – it was expensive, slow, and by the time results came in, there wasn’t much to act on. With Amplify, it’s cost-effective and fast, so we can test and iterate multiple times” – Karen Kraft, Associate Director of Consumer Insights, Johnsonville
