Overview
Smartphone-based research enables researchers to capture experiences in the moment, rather than relying on participant recall. This session explores how diary methods and mobile ethnography are used today, and how they can be integrated into modern qualitative study design.
This module combines and updates two sessions from the original course — Homework & Digital Ethnography and Diary Studies & In-the-Moment Research — reflecting how these methods are now run in practice. Mobile-first research has matured: participants are more experienced, platforms are more advanced, and the challenge is no longer data collection, but designing tasks that generate meaningful insight and making sense of richer datasets.
